CHICKASHA – Thursday’s baseball games went to the dogs. The Bulldogs, that is.
The Drovers could not overcome the NCAA Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs in the Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Bill Smith Ballpark.
Two strong hits — a home run and single RBI double — by Southwestern in the top of the fourth gave the Bulldogs a two run lead.
Shutting them out for the next three innings, left fielder Jared Coon scored USAO’s only run off an RBI by third baseman Heath Wilda in the bottom of the seventh.
Despite the last inning rally by the Drovers, USAO fell 2-1.
In game two, the Drovers gave up three runs early in the game and could not get into the rhythm at the plate, falling 5-0.
The Drovers are 5-4 overall this season. They take on Saint Mary’s in a three-game series at home on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is 1 p.m. both days.
