CHICKASHA– The ninth inning was the difference maker as the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma fell in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday on the road at Friends University.
The Falcons (18-8) scored three runs on the Drovers (10-14) in the ninth inning to grab the 7-6 win after USAO had maintained the lead for the entire game.
The Drovers scored in five of the nine innings, including a two-run sixth.
Rafael Peña went 2-for-5 on the day and drove in two runs to add to his season total of 24 RBI, which leads the team in that category.
Chris Musick, who leads the team in hitting, came in the sixth inning to pinch hit and hit a timely two-run single to extend USAO’s lead to 5-2. Musick finished 2-for-2 to extend his hitting streak to seven games and bring his batting average total to .420 on the year.
Jaime Gurrola drove in one run on a sacrifice fly, while Ryan Wescott scored on a wild pitch and went 3-for-5 on the day while scoring two runs in the game.
Tuesday’s game was the first of a five road games in a row. The Drovers will now head to Texas to continue Sooner Athletic Conference play against No. 13 Northwood University. They will play a nine-inning game on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. and finish the series in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at noon.
After those games the Drovers will face NCAA Division II Southwestern OSU in Weatherford on March 25 before returning home on March 28 to face conference opponent Southwestern Assemblies of God for a three game series on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
