CHICKASHA–After an extended road trip, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (12-16) is coming home with a win against NCAA Division II Southwestern OSU (16-11).
The Drovers defeated the Bulldogs 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Weatherford.
The Drovers struck first in the opening inning off an RBI double by Jaime Gurrola, who scored Chris Musick to grab the 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would answer in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.
The next run for the Drovers came off the bat of Spenser Mailman, tied the game at two each in the top of the fourth inning off an RBI single scoring Rafael Pena.
The game winner would come in the form of a Joe Barron single to score Gurrola, and then a quick insurance run was scored by Cody Rieger off an RBI by Mailman to give USAO a 4-2 lead heading into the final innings.
USAO’s final run was scored by Gurrola on a wild pitch, at which point the Drover defense took over from there preserving the win.
The winning pitcher was Rory Rivera who is now 1-1 on the season and Isaac Rodriguez gets his third save on the season.
The Drovers will now face SAC conference foe Southwestern Assemblies of God in a nine inning game on Friday starting at 3 p.m. at Bill Smith Ballpark. The series will conclude on Saturday in a doubleheader with first pitch starting at 1 p.m. in Chickasha.
