LUBBOCK, TEXAS – In the second game of pool-play in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, the Drovers overtook Oklahoma Christian and grabbed a 5-2 win in nine-innings in Lubbock, Texas.
USAO’s first run came in during the top of the second when Romus Cezar hit an RBI single to bring in shortstop Regulo Moy. The Drovers added to the lead in the sixth inning when third baseman Cody Bridgman crossed the plate thanks to an RBI by Moy.
Just two innings later, Moy batted two more runners in on a single. Conner Bridgman and Nolan Crowdus scored. The next at bat, Brandon Jewett scored off an RBI by first baseman Garan Qualls.
Senior Caleb Martin pitched eight innings for the Drovers. He threw three strikeouts. Josh Goodman came in the game in the ninth inning to clean up and earned the save.
In addition to his run and three RBIs, Moy had three put outs and six assists.
USAO’s win brings the team to a 26-24 overall record.
The Drovers (1-1) return in conference tournament action at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon against top-seeded Oklahoma City (1-1). That game will be played at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
Oklahoma Christian (0-2) will move on to play Rogers State (2-0), who defeated USAO on Wednesday. The game will begin at 2 p.m. at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas. Of the four, the team with the highest tournament record will advance to the championship game on Saturday.
