CHICKASHA – With 17 wins before hitting conference play, the Drover baseball team is off to what might be the best start in the program’s history.
“A lot of things are going really well for us. Pitching, defense, offense — it’s all coming together,” senior pitcher David Garcia said. “We are just ready to start playing in conference and ready to win.”
As a senior on the mound, Garcia is 5-0 with 20 strikeouts in 33.1 innings. He is expected to be a starting conference pitcher all season.
“It’s been fun. It’s been a good ride so far,” he said. “I’m just working hard on and off the field and giving my team a chance to win every time I can. I only play once a week, so I have to make the best of it.”
Garcia said he, along with the other 15 seniors and the rest of his teammates, fight hard in every practice to improve both together and individually — all with one goal in mind.
“We’re hungry from last year. We were just a game or two away from getting to the national tournament … we just fell short of our goal,” he said. “That’s what we are trying to do this year. We haven’t lost focus of what we are trying to do.”
