SHAWNEE – An early lead wasn’t enough to overcome the No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist Bison on Saturday evening in the Drovers’ second game of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (26-22) took a 3-0 lead, but the strong Bison offense began firing to secure the 10-4 win.

It didn’t take long for the Drovers to start the offense. Lead-off hitter Ryan Wescott singled to left field in the first inning and was brought home two batters later on a ground out by Jaime Gurrola.

In the third inning, Gurrola got a second RBI when he doubled to deep right center to score Chris Musick from first. Gurrola went on to score on an RBI single by Warren Stehn.

The Bison then scored nine unanswered runs before the Drovers got back on the board in the seventh inning when Eddie Malone scored on a single by Wescott.

OBU notched one more run before the game went final.

USAO’s Chris Fischer (5-6) threw five strikeouts in his four innings on the mound. He had his 23rd start as a Drover on Saturday.

Isaac Rodriguez came in and pitched the final four innings, throwing two strikeouts and giving up just one earned run.

USAO will go on to play eighth-seeded Mid-America Christian at 1 p.m. Sunday at OBU’s Baseball Complex.

OBU will go on to play Wayland Baptist at 5 p.m. Sunday. The SAC Championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Oklahoma City University.
