CHICKASHA – In their second ever Pink Out Cancer game, the Drovers (30-14) split against the Saint Gregory’s Cavaliers on Friday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.

The first game was a pitching battle that went into the eighth inning. USAO pitcher Blake McMullen (8-2) threw nine strikeouts total in his eight innings on the mound. The Drovers fell 1-0.

Game two saw more action at the plate for both teams. After giving up two in the first inning, the Drovers needed some runs, which they got with a strong third inning.

USAO’s first run of the day came off a bunt by Austin Ardrey that scored Daniel Edwards. With two quick outs after that, it wasn’t looking good for the Drovers until Brian Vigo singled to left center to score shortstop Konrad Mueller.

Next, two batters were hit by the pitch to load the bases, and Vigo scored on a passed ball shortly after that. But the Drovers weren’t done yet.

Chance Hill singled to left center to score USAO’s other runners, Hayden George and Kyle Lewis. Now leading 5-2, Tylor Lee walked, which meant two men remained on base.

Batting for a second time in the inning, Edwards hit his first home run of his two-year career at USAO. It was a three-RBI homer to give the Drovers an 8-2 lead.

The Drovers’ final run came the following inning when Vigo, who went 3-for-4 in the game, singled to right field to score Mueller. The Drovers went on to win 9-7.

Chris Fischer, who pitched the first three innings, earned the win. Fischer (3-3) threw four strikeouts. David Garcia and Josh Terrell also made appearances in the game before closer Josh Goodman earned the save pitching the final inning of the game. It is his seventh this season.

The game was the Drovers’ second ever Pink Out Cancer game, hosted by Drovers Against Cancer. The players and fans wore pink, and DAC sold concessions to raise money for cancer research.

The teams will finish the series Saturday afternoon at Saint Gregory’s in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

The Drovers next home game will be against No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist on April 20. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
