CHICKASHA – Back again for another year, the Drover Dancers are gearing up for what’s going to be an exciting season.
“We have a lot of talented, spirited girls this year,” Coach Emily Hector said.
Much like last season, the Drover Dancers plan to perform during halftimes and on the sidelines. This year, the Dancers also will have dances corresponding with some of the basketball game themes.
“I am really excited to have a lot more halftime dances,” said Kayle Hurd, drama sophomore. “They are so much fun, and the crowd really seems to like them. I looking forward to working with the girls on the team and making this year the best year for Drover spirit.”
This season, the Drover Dancers have four returnees: Emily Cecil, Kayla Hurd, Beatriz Rey and Whitney Story.
“I have a lot of expectations for the girls this year, and I know we will meet them,” said Whitney Story, drama senior. “I think we have a great group of girls this season.”
The newest members for the Drover Dancers are Brittany Gore, Kelly Hoang, Chastity McClintic, Caitlynn Ray, Megan Bell and Halie Cain.
“We seem to have a group of new girls that are picking things up quickly,” Hector said. “I think we’ll be more blended than we were last year because we’re all starting fresh and having some girls that are returning will make us that much better.”
The Dancers have been fine-tuning their performances since finalizing the squad after tryouts in early September.
In addition to coaching the squad, Emily Hector is an adjunct professor at USAO, Chickasha High School pom coach and owner and teacher of Love to Dance studio.
