SHAWNEE – The No. 22 Wayland Baptist Pioneers bested the Drovers in 40 minutes of action on Friday night in the Sooner Athletic Conference Semifinals at Oklahoma Baptist’s Noble Complex.
Wayland Baptist goes on to play eighth-seeded Oklahoma Baptist in the SAC Finals at 7 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma Baptist’s Noble Complex. The winner of the SAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship tournament.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle as both teams had fairly even stats. Where they differed, however, was in steals and shooting percentage. USAO had seven steals to WBU’s zero. Additionally, the Pioneers were shooting 46 percent in the first half, compared to USAO 37 percent.
Both Tyler Reynolds and Jahseth Lloyd had 13 points in the first 20 minutes.
Within 10 minutes of the second half, Wayland had a nine-point lead. USAO’s response was an 11-0 run to propel the Drovers back into the lead. From then, the teams traded baskets.
Tyler Reynolds went on to score his career-high of 26 points and a total of five assists in the game.
Jahseth Lloyd went on to grab his seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Kennis White had 12 points in the game.
