SILOAM SPRINGS, ARK. – No. 23 Southern Nazarene was just too much for the Drovers in the third match up of the season, this time in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.
Coach Brisco McPherson said his players fought tough, but the short bench and long minutes wore on the team a bit earlier than it did for USAO’s opponent.
“I thought we played hard,” McPherson said. “I’m still proud of the guys’ effort. We had a chance all the way up to the end, and I think we just ran out of gas.”
Senior Kyle Hunt and junior Graham Faulkner each had 14 points in the game. Hunt had his 16th double-double of the season with 10 rebounds as well. He also had six blocks.
Faulkner shot 50 percent from the field and 66 percent from beyond the arc.
Senior Trell Porter had 13 points and five assists to add to the Drovers’ total. He was on the court for the entire 40 minutes of action.
The Drovers fell 68-60 to the Storm. The loss ends the season for the Drovers while Southern Nazarene will go on to play top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist on Friday evening.
USAO ends the season 15-14 overall and 11-11 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Before the game, Hunt was presented with his SAC Co-Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards, and Phillip Harris was presented with his All-Conference Honorable Mention plaque.
The game was the last of eight games on Thursday. Because of delays and an overtime battle, the Drovers didn’t tip off until close to 11 p.m.
