CHICKASHA – In the regular season finale, the Drovers battled back and forth with Wayland Baptist, a team that is receiving votes nationally, before falling 89-85 in the close game.
The lead changed hands only once and tied once before the Pioneers (20-9, 11-8) took the lead for good to grab the win over the Drovers (13-14, 10-10).
At halftime, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma held a 41-36 edge, fighting to extend its lead to nine with five minutes left in the first half to keep momentum on the Drovers’ side. It was the second half in which was the difference when Wayland Baptist went on a huge run to overcome the deficit and secure the victory.
Four Drovers were in double figures as Tyler Reynolds and Shavon Scott led the way with 21 points. Donnie Brown had 14 first half points and ended up scoring 16 on the evening.
Kennis White had 10 points and a team-leading nine rebounds in the game. Scott had seven rebounds to place second in the category.
With the regular season completed, USAO will have to wait to determine their seed heading into the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. At the end of all games on Thursday, the Drovers were in seventh place and will most likely be in a play-in game on Wednesday.
The SAC tournament will take place in Shawnee on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University on March 5-8. The first game of the tournament will be Wednesday morning at the Noble Complex.
USAO will update its athletic website, with Sooner Athletic Conference tournament pairings and tournament schedule once it’s released by the conference.
