CHICKASHA – In a game filled with shots for the highlight reel, the Drover men defeated NCAA Division II No. 11 University of Central Oklahoma in USAO’s home opener Wednesday night.
The score was 6-5 when senior Kyle Hunt kick started the offense with a crowd-pleasing dunk off an assist by Phillip Harris. The Drovers dominated the first half from then on.
At halftime, USAO led 48-31. While UCO outscored the Drovers in the second half, they were not able to grab enough and the Drovers won 87-73.
While Hunt had a strong first night at the USAO Fieldhouse, with 12 points and eight rebounds, it was junior Javier Ramos came in as the Drovers’ leading scorer with 16 points.
Junior Brandon Cutler and true freshman Benjamin Berry each had another 14 points for USAO. Berry went 5-for-5 from the field and also grabbed eight rebounds.
The win pulls the Drovers to 2-1 overall.
They head to Midwestern State for an exhibition before taking on Langston University on Nov. 19. Their next home game is the conference opener against Oklahoma City at 8 p.m. Dec. 1.
