CHICKASHA – Five USAO players scored in the double digits in the school’s home opener on Tuesday night against NCAA Division II Central Oklahoma.
Despite the high performances offensively, the Drovers (0-3) were not able to finish the game and dropped 91-86 in the last minutes of the game.
Throughout the game, the lead changed 12 times and the game was tied another 12 times. The Drovers shot nearly 45 percent from the field for the game compared to UCO’s 52 percent.
Senior newcomer Tyler Reynolds led the Drovers on Tuesday, scoring 24 points on 6-for-10 from the field. He made four of his six shots from beyond the arc, which puts him at No. 15 in the NAIA in threes per game.
Kennis White, a senior from South Bend, Ind., scored another 17 for USAO with seven rebounds. Starting point guard Markens Charles scored 15 points with six assists.
Senior Shavon Scott netted 13 points and led the team in rebounds with eight. Ahmir Bailey also had eight rebounds.
The last Drover to score in the double figures was Donnie Brown, who had 10 points off of three three-pointers and a free throw.
It was Student Activities Board annual Homecoming, and USAO crowned its new Homecoming King and Queen, Matthew Crow and Maggie Wilson.
The Drovers go on the road to face Southeastern OSU in an exhibition game on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and Langston University the following Tuesday night, also at 7:30 p.m.
They return home to face NCAA Division II Southwestern OSU on Nov. 16. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. That game will be Armed Forces Night and all military members, veterans and family are invited to attend the game for free.
