CHICKASHA – A national search for a head men’s basketball coach at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma begins Monday after Vinson Metcalf resigned on Thursday afternoon citing personal and family reasons.

Assistant Coach Chris Francis will serve as interim head coach, mentored by former head coach and current athletic director, Brisco McPherson.

“I appreciate Coach Metcalf’s service to the university for the last 15 years,” McPherson said. “He has been an asset to our program, and I wish him well.”

Metcalf led the Drovers to an even 15-15 season in the best small school conference in the country in his first and only season as head coach, 2013-14.

Metcalf spent nearly 15 seasons as an assistant for the Drovers, helping McPherson lead the team to the 2002 NAIA National Championship.

He was inducted into the USAO Hall of Fame in 2013 along with the rest of the championship team.
