CHICKASHA – With the basketball season right around the corner, the Drover men are gearing up for a great season.

Head Coach Brisco McPherson said the group of men he’s assembled could be a winning combination this year.

“I think we all agree this might be one of the best recruiting classes we’ve had in a while, so we’re looking for these guys to step up and deliver this year,” McPherson said. “And then the guys we’ve got returning are guys that we feel like have grown and matured and will really help us this year.”

The biggest weakness of the newcomers is, as always, learning to play in one of the most competitive conferences out there.

“We’ve got some kids that will help us. They understand what we need to do,” he said.
“What they don’t understand is how tough this league is, and they’ll find that out soon enough.”

Preseason Sooner Athletic Conference polls put USAO No. 8, but McPherson has high hopes that the team will exceed that ranking.

“There are some other schools that are probably going do better than they have in the past, and I think we’re one of them,” he said. “We’re just going to have to work it out and see what happens.”

Fans will get a chance to meet the Drovers at USAO’s annual pep rally to kick off the season, Drover Madness, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the USAO Fieldhouse.
