CHICKASHA – While the season may not have gone exactly as the coaches had predicted, the men’s basketball team at USAO played hard and athletically and made the coaches proud.

“From an overall coaches perspective, I think we were quite pleased with our guys’ effort,” assistant coach Vinson Metcalf said. “I think we put together some games where our athleticism came out and the guys really played hard.”

The Drovers had several players named All-Conference, including Co-Player and Newcomer of the Year Kyle Hunt and Freshman of the Year Ben Berry. Additionally, USAO had two players — Norris Rumph and Phil Harris — named Honorable Mention.

“That’s a compliment on how talented the team was,” Metcalf said. “Here again, we came up short in the win-loss column, but we had a very talented team.”

Now in the off season, the USAO coaches are heading out to tournaments to do the bulk of their recruiting, looking to replace seniors Trell Porter, Kyle Hunt and Drew Godwin.

“We’re about the hit the road,” Metcalf said. “We are just going to go out and try to see if we can add some pieces to the puzzle because we have several guys who are coming back and hopefully we can replace those guys I just mentioned to carry on this winning tradition we have here at USAO.”
