CHICKASHA – The Drovers had another tough night in the USAO Fieldhouse on Monday night as both teams fell to the Crimson Storm in a third conference game.
The women’s highest scorer was senior Aita Gueye, who had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Also scoring big for USAO were Maggie Oliver with 14 points and Vernisha Moss with 10.
"I was disappointed we didn't come out playing like we did in the second half," Head Coach Laci Tompkins said. "We fought hard and never quit, so I was proud of their effort. We just have to play at that high level from the start."
The Drovers were defeated 81-68. They are 5-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The men fell behind quickly but brought the game within just a few points going into halftime.
Sahlih Butts had his sixth double double so far this season. He had 19 points, 16 rebounds and one assist. Sophomore Graham Faulkner helped the Drovers with another 11 points and two assists and Phillip Harris scored nine for USAO on Monday night.
The Drovers lost 71-55. They fall to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The men will take on Cameron University in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Saturday night. It will be Local Media Appreciation Day and local media members and their families will get in free.
The teams will both play their next conference game at home Jan. 1 against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Clay McCullough, a physical education sophomore, was the first to receive a DVD player prize at a basketball game this year. USAO will be giving away another three players throughout the season.
