CHICKASHA – Heading into halftime with a two-point deficit, the Drovers were looking for momentum, but ultimately a hot shooting Saint Gregory’s team led to an 86-74 loss on Thursday in Shawnee.
With the Drovers (11-11, 8-7) looking to upset nationally-ranked Cavaliers and extend their three-game winning streak, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma relied on NAIA national player of the week Jahseth Lloyd, who led the way with his sixth double-double of the year.
Lloyd grabbed 18 points and 12 rebounds in Thursday night’s game. He was one of three USAO players in double figures.
Shavon Scott also scored 18 points for the Drovers while Kennis White snatched another 15 in USAO’s favor and was one rebound away from a double-double himself.
USAO shot the ball better than SGU in the first half, but the Cavs shot 60 percent in the second half to grab the lead and cruise to their 18th win of the season.
The back-and-forth contest saw the lead change hands 11 times and the game tie eight times before Saint Gregory’s took the final lead in the latter part of the first half.
USAO returns home for another conference battle against John Brown on Saturday afternoon at Brisco McPherson Court. Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The game is USAO’s annual Sponsors’ Day and employees of USAO basketball season sponsors will enjoy free admission to the game. Chickasha’s Love to Dance Studio has three solos set to perform at halftime.
