Both USAO basketball teams played the Saint Gregory’s University Cavaliers Monday night, but only the men’s team came out victorious.
The Drovers came together as a team Monday night to win the game with a final score of 81-71.
Thomas Peters led the team in scoring with 19 points in the game, despite missing more than a third of his field goal attempts and only two of eight three-point attempts.
Fred Savoie was a close second with 17 points and seven rebounds. He made eight of his 11 field goal attempts and all three of his free throws, along with his one three-point attempt.
Anthony Turner led the team in rebounds with 15 during the game.
The Drovers gave up 13 turnovers and had eight steals. The Drover win brought them to an overall record of 3-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Charitie Lewis came out with her fourth double double of the season in the USAO women’s loss at home also Monday night. The final score was 80-68.
Lewis made 10 of 16 field goal attempts and three free throws, as well as 10 rebounds – the team’s highest rebound count of the night.
But it was Brenda Portillo who was the team’s leading scorer, sinking six free throws, four three-pointers and one free throw.
The Drovers turned over the ball to the Cavaliers a total of 23 times during the game.
The loss brings the team to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
