CHICKASHA – A decade ago, USAO men’s basketball team made history earning the first NAIA National Championship for the university.

Having lost in the finals the previous season by just four points, the Drovers were not willing to go home empty handed again.

Led by coach Brisco McPherson, USAO beat out Barat College in the National Semifinals in an overtime victory. Their only hurdle to the National Championship was conference-rival Oklahoma Baptist.

The very next day, the Drovers embarked on the historic game and had no problem taming the Bison, grabbing a 96-79 victory and the 2002 NAIA National Championship.

Ten years later, the legacy of that team still stands among fans, coaches and of course, the 14 members of that historic 2012 squad.
