CHICKASHA – Despite a last-second attempt, the No. 18 Drovers fell to (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) in the Tourbeau Sports Group National Game of the Week on Sunday afternoon at Drover Pitch.
A last-second equalizer by the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma was called after the time had run out, and the Drovers (3-3) fell 2-1.
USAO outshot the Wildcats 11-3 in the first half, but the battle remained scoreless until the 70th minute when Scott Parkinson headed a corner kick, delivered by Niall Burley, into Bethel’s goal.
About five minutes later, Bethel scored back-to-back goals to take the lead, which they held for the remaining 15 minutes.
Goalkeeper Bryan Byars (3-3) had four saves in the game.
The game was nationally broadcast by Tourbeau Sports Group, who travel to a different game each week.
The Drovers travel to their next three matches, starting with back-to-back games next weekend at Wiley and Texas colleges. Then, USAO faces its first conference opponent at Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 27.
Their next home game is against conference foe Wayland Baptist. That game is set for 3 p.m. Oct. 1 at Drover Pitch.
