CHICKASHA – Leading the country in goals against average and securing nine shutouts in a row, sophomore Bryan Byars was named this week’s Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

This week, Byars posted his eighth and ninth shutouts in a row while collecting three saves a piece against conference opponents Rogers State and John Brown. He has 25 saves on the season.

Byars currently leads the country in goals against average (0.18), giving up just two goals in the 11 games of the season.

With 19 shutouts in a season and a half, Byars is just two games away from tying Assistant Coach Alexis Vizarelis’ career shutouts record.

This is the second time Byars received the SAC Player of the Week honor this season.

Byars is a physical education and business management sophomore from Oklahoma City. He is the son of Danny and Pauline Byars.

The Drovers next home game will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday against Mid-America Christian at Drover Pitch. It is USAO’s Pink Out Cancer game and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
