CHICKASHA – After going undefeated in the regular season, the Drover men found themselves not advancing beyond the SAC Quarterfinals as the fell in penalty kicks to rival Oklahoma City.
The Drovers, who entered the tournament top seed and third in the country, outshot the Stars 28-12 for the game, getting out more than twice as many as the Stars in each period.
With a lot of close calls, the Drovers were unable to hit the net until 61 minutes into the game when Niall Burley found Scott Parkinson for a header off of a corner kick.
But the Drovers weren’t able to hold off the Stars long, as OCU’s Trevor Harmon scored unassisted less than 15 minutes later.
The game went through two overtimes without another goal, causing a tie. With it being a conference game, the team that would advance came down to a penalty shootout, which OCU won 5-4.
USAO goalkeeper Bryan Byars had five saves in the game.
The Drovers are 13-0-4. While their SAC Tournament days over, the Drovers still have an opportunity to make it into the NAIA National Tournament. Those teams will be announced Nov. 11.
