CHICKASHA – In their last regular season home game, the Drover men came in with a ninth conference win to continue undefeated in the Sooner Athletic Conference with the shutout of Southern Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon.
The Drovers fought a tough battle but spent most of the game on the attack, outshooting their opponents 30-7. USAO, however, had a hard time finding the net until Perry Sansford scored in the 70th minute of the game. Chris Lee had the assist in that play.
Bryan Byars spent another 90 minutes in the box, recording three saves and earning a 12th win of the season.
The Drovers’ 1-0 win propels the team to 13-3 overall and 9-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. USAO already has clinched the regular season SAC title.
Additionally, the Drover men recognized 7-year-old Christopher Barnes as an honorary Drover for the day. The first grader at Southwest is an avid soccer fan and must undergo surgery this winter that will break both his femurs. He was announced with the starters and presented with a soccer ball signed by the team.
It was also Senior Day at Drover Pitch and seven seniors were honored: John Gardner, Niall Crick, Sam Shaddick, Chris Lee, Anthony Nesbit, Dusan Rasovic and Breno Figueiredo.
The Drovers head to Oklahoma City to finish off the regular season on Friday evening starting at 7 p.m.
