CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma men’s and women’s soccer teams will be well represented in this summer’s National Premier Soccer League and Women’s Premier Soccer League Oklahoma City FC teams.
Both teams will be led by Drover coaches. Jimmy Hampton will coach the men’s team for the second year in a row while Alexis Vizarelis will coach the women.
Hampton said he thinks playing in the league is a great opportunity for the Drover players to get some exposure and some work in before the fall 2014 season begins.
“The success of our collegiate program has opened numerous doors for our players to compete in these amateur leagues throughout the summer,” Hampton said. “Not only will it benefit OKC FC, but it will benefit in their prep for the college season.”
This is the second season where Drover men’s players played on the Oklahoma City FC, where the team finished with a record of 8-4-2 and good for a third place finish in their division.
The men’s team has a total of 15 Drover alumni or current players while on the women’s side four players are on the roster for FC.
Selected for the men’s team are current soccer players: Niall Burley, Bryan Byars, Jean Gnapi, Liam Madden, Kalokwera Okot, Stephen Owusu, Luka Rasovic, Sam Rimmer, Alejandro Rubio, Perry Sansford, Nat Scott and Savio Solomon. The alumni for the men’s side are: Niall Crick, Phil Pryor and Frank Gibson.
On the women’s team these current Drovers will be on the team: Addie Lee, Jade Ovendale and Ryah Vyse. Annie Crick (Zoch) is the only alumni player on the women’s team.
Oklahoma City FC season will begin on May 2 and will include 25 games on the schedule.
Hampton said he is looking forward to see his players compete for such a big opportunity.
“We are excited for those who are competing and look forward to a great summer,” Hampton said.
