CHICKASHA – Both Drover soccer teams came out with strong shutouts against Texas College in their second games of the season.

It took the Drover men less than 20 minutes to get their rhythm. Senior Niall Crick scored the Drovers’ first goal of the season 17 minutes into the game. It was then the 52-minute mark when Crick assisted the Drovers second goal, scored by sophomore Nicolas Alberto.

Just minutes later, sophomore Perry Sansford scored off an assist by Dusan Rasovic, who then went on to score just two and a half minutes after that.

With less than 10 minutes left in play, freshman Jean Gnapi found the goal off an assist by Carlos Rivera and 30 seconds later, Graham Hunter scored the Drovers’ sixth on a penalty kick.

Alex Rubio grabbed USAO’s seventh and final goal with just more than a minute left in regulation.

Gnapi and Hunter also had assists in the game.

Just facing six shots on goal thanks to the Drover defenders, freshman keeper Bryan Byars earned the shutout and his first win as a Drover.

The Drover men finished game with a 7-0 shutout and come in at 1-1 overall.

The women played just as well, starting off with two goals right off the bat — in the first three minutes of play. Junior Mistery Neal grabbed the first goal and junior Calli Cooper took the second.

Just minutes later, Cooper grabbed her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.

Also in the first half, junior Brennan Miller, former Drover basketball player, scored her first goal for the Drovers off an assist by Megan Wilkerson.

The Drovers didn’t score again until the last 15 minutes of play when freshman Brittni Kent, who redshirted last season, scored off an assist by Neal.

Senior Leslie Bross just added icing to the cake when she scored an unassisted goal with 10 minutes to play to make the final score 6-0.

Also assisting goals on Thursday were Kelli Korleski, Taylor Fain and Erin Coggan.

With help from her defensive line, Addie Tipton earned the shutout and her second win of the season after playing all 90 minutes of the game. She recorded just three saves.

The Drover women start the season 2-0 overall.

The Drovers play their next games against Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sept. 16 at Drover Pitch in Chickasha.
