CHICKASHA – The Drover men found success in the conference opener against Saint Gregory's on Tuesday, finishing with a 2-0 clean sheet.
Four minutes into the game, Perry Sansford scored USAO’s first goal off an assist by Chris Lee. Twenty minutes later, Luka Rasovic found Graham Hunter for the team’s second goal.
The Drovers outshot their opponent 17-3 in the game but were not able to find the goal again.
Junior Ryan Mcentee started for the Drovers and recorded a save. Teammate Bryan Byars finished the game at keeper.
The Drover men move on to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The women had no problem with Saint Gregroy's. In the first 30 minutes of play Tuesday, Calli Cooper had secured a hat trick and began to lead the Drover women a great 8-0 shutout in the team’s conference opener against Saint Gregory’s.
Thanks to Cooper’s three goals, the Drovers went into halftime up 3-0. In the first eight minutes of the second half, the Drovers had punched in another four goals. The eighth goal went in just 20 minutes later.
After grabbing the first three, Cooper ended up with five total goals in the game. Junior Mistery Neal had two goals, and Gabby Barros scored USAO’s final goal of the game.
Coming in with assists on Tuesday were Taylor Fain, Megan Wilkerson, Erin Coggan, Leslie Bross, Jordyn Yates and Emily Stevenson.
The Drovers’ defense kept Saint Gregory’s to one shot in the entire game, and Addie Tipton, who spent all 90 minutes in the box, earned the shutout.
The Drover women remain undefeated with a 6-0 record and are now 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Drovers travel to Shawnee to take on Oklahoma Baptist at 2 and 4 p.m. on Friday. The women then travel to Northwestern Oklahoma State before both teams play at home Oct. 7. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men.
