CHICKASHA – Eager to prove their worth at top seed, the Drover men scored two goals against the Bison on Monday afternoon to send themselves to the Sooner Athletic Conference Finals and keep their national tournaments hopes alive.
"The boys played tremendous," Coach Jimmy Hampton said. "We worked very hard for a great result. OBU is well coached and an excellent team."
The Drovers struck in the first four minutes of play when Nicolas Alberto found sophomore Perry Sansford for a USAO goal.
From then on, the game remained a defensive battle as neither team pulled off as many shots as they are accustomed. It wasn’t until another 70 minutes had passed before Sansford scored his second goal of the game off an assist by senior Dusan Rasovic.
But the Bison weren’t going to go down without a fight. Taylor Thompson grabbed an OBU goal minutes later to make the final score 2-1.
OBU’s Marcus Oliveira had three saves in the same, while USAO’s Bryan Byars had two. Byars earned his 13th win of the season.
"I'm very proud of our boys," Hampton said. "Now, we need to recover and get ready for Lubbock on Thursday."
The Drovers will play Lubbock Christian in the SAC Finals at home at 2 p.m. Thursday. The winner of that game will advance to the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament.
