CHICKASHA – USAO came out strong Saturday afternoon and, eight goals later, had a decisive 8-2 win over the University of Saint Thomas.
Coach Jimmy Hampton said he was pleased with the team’s work and thought they showed improvement.
“We had a much better work rate today as a team,” he said. “I thought Antonio Junior, Daniel Gibson, Richard Norman and Dusan Rasvoic all looked good.”
Norman, a senior mid-fielder, turned out to be one of the stars of the game. He scored two goals — including the Drovers’ first, which set the tone for the game.
Senior forward Nikola Cakarevic also came out with two goals on Saturday, both penalty kicks.
And defender Chris Lee netted a goal against the Celts, hitting one at the 82-minute mark.
Nicolas Alberto, David Otieno and Niall Crick also had goals for USAO.
Defensively, the Drovers were strong, allowing only one goal first half and for most of the game. Saint Thomas’ Efrain Orozco scored the team’s final goal with less than a minute left in the game.
Goalkeeper Ryan Mcentee had three saves in the full 90-minute game.
The Drovers are now 4-0 overall. They will play again Sept. 21 at Bethel College in Kansas. A Tuesday match at Texas Wesleyan has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
The Drover women will return to action at 2 p.m. on Friday in Edmond against East Central.
