CHICKASHA – For the third time in four years, USAO Head Soccer Coach Jimmy Hampton was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s All-Region Coach of the Year for men’s soccer.
Hampton, who also earned the honor in 2009 and 2010, said the honor reflects his coaching staff — Alexis Vizarelis, Tony Orsi and Tommy Hubbard — and the quality of players on the team.
“I am very grateful for the hard work they all put in, and I am honored to receive this award,” he said. “To be mentioned in the same group of some of the outstanding coaches in our region is a great honor.”
This season, Hampton led the men’s soccer team to a 14-1-4 record, finishing the regular season undefeated for the first time in school history. The Drovers attended the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Tournament for the fourth year in a row this season.
Last month, he was named Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Beginning the season, Hampton was the 20th Active Winningest Coach in the NAIA.
Coach of the Year honoree is chosen by a vote among other coaches in the region.
Hampton will be honored with the award in January at the NSCAA National Convention and Awards Banquet in Indianapolis.
Hampton has been in charge of the USAO men’s and women’s soccer programs since they began in 1998. He has led the men to 195-78-14 record, with the women’s program earning a record of 151-114-18.
In addition to his coaching duties at USAO, Hampton is the director of coaching for the Oklahoma Football Club, which is the largest soccer club in the state.
