CHICKASHA – After two 4-0 shutouts this week, two of the No. 5 Drovers’ starters earned Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Recording his third and fourth shutouts of the season, Bryan Byars was named Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
This week’s games made four shutouts in the row for the Drovers, who are 4-0-2 on the season.
Byars had five saves and allowed no goals in the 180 minutes in the box. Additionally, he had his first career assist in a goal in Friday’s game against Northwood University.
For the season, Byars as allowed just two goals and posted 14 saves. The goals against came against Top 10 teams Baker University and Hastings College.
Byars ranks second in the NAIA in goals against per game (0.310) this season.
For his career, the sophomore keeper has 21 wins, 14 shutouts and 81 saves.
Byars is a physical education and business management sophomore from Oklahoma City. He is the son of Danny and Pauline Byars.
For the second time this season, Nicolas Alberto was named Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Alberto, who won the season’s first SAC honors in August, scored three goals in two games this week.
At Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday, Alberto scored the game-winner and followed that performance with two goals within a minute of one another on Friday against Northwood University.
With three game-winners already this season, Alberto is fourth in the NAIA in total game winners.
He currently leads the team with five goals on the season. For his career at USAO, he has 22 goals and 12 assists.
Alberto is a business junior from Paris, France. He is the son of Victor and Valerie Alberto.
The Drovers will be back in action on Friday. They take on Bethany College at 2 p.m. at Drover Pitch.
