CHICKASHA – The Drover men now 9-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference are feeling pretty good as the regular season winds down with just one conference game to go, starting keeper Bryan Byars said.
“The season’s going really good,” he said. “Everyone had high expectations for the season, and we wanted to go undefeated and we’ve done it.”
On the road in Arkansas, the team clinched their regular season SAC title, which was particularly special for Byars.
“It was really exciting being a freshman and all — a redshirt freshman — so winning conference my first year. I guess that’s saying something,” he said. “It was really exciting. All the boys enjoyed it. It was a fun three and a half hours back on the bus.”
Being one of only two Americans on the team has potential to be difficult, but Byars describes the team like a family with open arms.
“It’s nice. It’s really fun. It’s interesting. Sometimes, I can’t understand what they’re saying,” he said. “But you go along with it. You enjoy it. It’s a lot of fun.”
