CHICKASHA – Facing their first ranked opponent in nearly three weeks, the Drovers dominated No. 19 Texas Wesleyan 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at Drover Pitch.
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (7-4, 4-1) is looking to claw their way back into the NAIA Top 25, while the Rams (9-4-1, 3-3) were hoping to stay in the rankings in Saturday’s game.
The Drovers scored their first four goals in the first half, knocking in the final two in last 20 minutes of the game.
Nicolas Alberto earned the game-winner with the first goal of the game, a kick in the right side of the goal, just eight-and-a-half minutes into play.
Alberto then assisted the Drovers second goal, scored by USAO’s Kyle Maxwell, who took Alberto’s pass right in past TWU’s keeper.
Alberto went on to score yet again, earning the third goal off a direct pass by Stephen Owusu.
Before halftime, Jamie North scored off an assist by Niall Burley.
The first 25 minutes of the second half saw both teams battling to find the net. At the 70-minute mark, Liam Madden scored off a free kick.
The final goal, scored with seven minutes left in regulation, came from Nat Scott, who faced the keeper one-on-one and slid the ball in the right side.
The Drovers outshot TWU 27-6 for the game.
USAO keeper Bryan Byars (7-4) earned his fifth shutout of the season. He had two saves in the game.
The Drovers travel to Mid-America Christian on Tuesday afternoon for a game set for 3 p.m. Their next home game will be at 3 p.m. next Saturday against Southwestern Christian.
