CHICKASHA – USAO soccer players arrived on campus Monday, and coaches quickly began a rigorous preseason practice schedule, all in preparation for scrimmages next week.

Head Coach Jimmy Hampton admits to being extra tough on the players in the first few weeks of practice.

“I’ve got to be honest, what do we not do?” he said. “We pick them apart in the first two weeks, to be fair. We break everything down ... We’re very hard on them and very picky in the first couple weeks on the things want them to do. So, the first two weeks are rough, probably like any preseason practice going on anywhere.”

Hampton planned the preseason scrimmages to help the teams see where they are. The women play Northern Junior College and Dallas Baptist University at home at 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

The men, on the other hand, head out for two away games against NCAA Division II teams the same week. The men then begin season play at home against Hillsdale College at 3 p.m. Aug. 31.

“The scrimmages, the results don’t matter so much as much as how we play and if we can find the right pieces to the puzzle,” he said.
