CHICKASHA – First-year Drover Liz Agpalo already tops the record books in one category after hitting two home runs in a doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State last week.
Going into the games, Agpalo, a junior from Carrollton, Texas, had tied the single season home run record set in 2009. Leslie Beaty and Caitlyn Crotty each hit nine homers in the 2009 season.
Agpalo had a great series against Northwestern. In game one, she had three RBIs and scored three runs, including her home run. She also pitched the final 3.2 innings, throwing four strikeouts and not allowing a single earned run.
Additionally, she was responsible for batting in both the USAO runs scored in the second game. Pitching also in game two, she threw another four strikeouts and didn’t allow any earned runs.
For the season, Agpalo has scored 34 runs and batted 30 runners in. She is a zoology junior and is the daughter of Kevin and Debbie Agpalo. Before USAO, she pitched two seasons at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.
The Drovers have just two more conference series left in the 2011 season. On Saturday, they play at Oklahoma Christian at 1 p.m. They then return home for senior day — a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. April 26 against Saint Gregory’s.
