CHICKASHA – At 15-9 so far this season, the Drover softball team is well on its way to a strong season, despite what outfielder Markie LaFerney calls a small rough patch.
“I think that we started out a little rough,” she said. “We’re finally getting that team concept and getting together really well.”
In just her sophomore season at USAO, LaFerney leads the team in total runs this season, scoring 19 times for the Drovers already.
“This year I have a different mindset, I guess: When people get on base, making sure I do my job,” she said. “Whatever I can do to help the team.”
LaFerney, who comes to USAO from Tuttle, said one of the reasons she decided to play for the Drovers was because she shared a similar background with Coach Jenn White.
“Coach White, she was a big influence of why I came here because she grew up how I grew up … she had the same upbringing softball-wise as I did,” LaFerney said. “(I knew) I would like her coaching ways. She’s really relaxed, easy going, but then again she likes to do work and get the job done.”
