CHICKASHA – Laurissa Eliason had quite a journey to USAO.

After growing up in Saskatchewan, Canada, Eliason went to Vernon College in Texas after high school. She spent two years there, before heading to USAO for a year to play softball. After the 2007 season, Eliason took off to England.

“I got to realize what the big bad world was all about, so I matured real quick out there,” she said. “When I came back, I definitely appreciated everything a lot more.”
Eliason spent another season playing softball for the Drovers. When her eligibility expired at the end the last season, she decided to stay on as a graduate assistant.

“I didn’t know how coaching was going to be for me. I never ever thought I would end up doing this, but I enjoyed it a lot. It was a really good experience,” she said. “It was something I needed to do, I think, for the game.”
The Lady Drovers took a while to find their groove this season, but each player seemed to have found her place on the team before the season ended.

“I think in the beginning, it was just a juggling thing with Coach (Jenn) Cody,” she said. “At the end, she got a set lineup and that’s what worked best for us.”
