CHICKASHA – Another Sooner Athletic Conference match was kept close on Saturday afternoon before No. 16 John Brown pulled ahead of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma to win it 60-46.
In a game that saw the Drovers (5-14, 4-12) either leading or within one possession for the first 35 minutes, it wasn’t until the final few minutes when the Golden Eagles (20-5, 12-4) pulled ahead.
USAO led for the first 10 minutes of the game and then gained the lead again just before half, enjoying a two-point advantage at halftime thanks to a late layup by Sami Martin.
After the break, the Drovers extended their lead to as much as five and remained in control of the game until there was six and a half minutes left. Shorty after the six-minute mark, the Golden Eagles pulled ahead to secure their victory.
The Drovers shot nearly 33 percent from the field in the game and out rebounded their opponents 39-34, including 13 offensive rebounds.
Senior Amber Chaney led the team with 14 points and five rebounds in the game. Martin had another 10 points and six rebounds.
Brittany Elkins led the team in rebounds with eight on the night, half of which were offensive boards.
The Drovers travel to No. 6 Oklahoma City on Thursday night before returning home for their next home game on Saturday against Southwestern Christian.
That game will be Alumni Day and alumni from OCW, OCLA and USAO will enjoy free admission to the game. Tip off is scheduled 3 p.m.
