BETHANY– The women entered their opening weekend trying to start the season off on the right foot playing at Southwestern Christian Classic on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

The Drovers (0-1) took a 73-45 advantage in a Saturday afternoon exhibition match against Rhema Bible College after dropping the 2013-14 season opener against Friends University with a final of 67-39.

In the exhibition matchup, the Drovers had two members of the team score more than 10 points. Sophomore Sami Martin led the way with 22 points.

The other Drover in double figures was senior Rachelle Carr, who had 19 points with eight steals and four assists on the game as well.

The Drovers shot 43 percent from the field and 78 percent from the charity stripe. The Drovers percentages increased after an offensive explosion in the second half of the game.

In USAO’s Friday game against Friends, Martin and Carr were the Drovers’ leading scorers as well. Martin had 14 points, and Carr had 10 points with three steals to add to her total on the weekend.

The Drovers will travel to Tulsa to face NCAA Division I Oral Roberts University in an exhibition match up scheduled for noon on Friday.

After USAO’s opener and two exhibition matches, the Drovers will have a lot of time to rest up before their next regular season game, set for 5 p.m. on Nov. 19 at Bacone College.
