CHICKASHA – Despite improvements, both Drover basketball teams fell to Rogers State University on Saturday night.
The Drover women had a tough time against the Hillcats. They held the lead eight times, but in the end, the Drovers couldn’t keep a hold of the ball and were defeated 69-57.
Senior Aita Gueye made seven field goals and five of her six free throws on Saturday night. She came out with 19 points and five rebounds.
Vernisha Moss added another nine points and six rebounds to the Drovers’ total.
The women fall to 7-20 and 3-17 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Drover men shot more than 50 percent from the field in their conference match up, but their 75 points weren’t quite enough to overtake the Hillcats, who are now third in the conference standings. The Drovers were defeated 77-75.
The game went into final seconds when Thomas Peter’s last-second half-court attempt hit a speaker on the ceiling and came down shy of the goal.
Peters had 20 points in the game, but it was Phillips Harris who came out as USAO’s highest scorer Saturday night. After making every one of his two-point attempts and four threes, Harris came out with 24 points on the night.
Seven-foot senior Damian Lewis had a double double in the game, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
The men fall to 10-16 overall and 6-14 in conference play.
Both teams have a challenge up next: Oklahoma City. The Drovers will play at OCU on Thursday night before returning home for their final game – and Senior Night – on Saturday. Tip off for those games will be at 6 and 8 p.m.
