CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts played a strong second half to cut a halftime deficit, but were unable to finish the comeback on the road against Southwestern Assemblies of God, falling 78-54 in the end.

In the second half, USAO (3-5, 2-3) shot 33 percent from the field, while SAGU (8-7, 2-3) shot 39 percent in the second half to capture the win.

The Drovers had two players in double figures with sophomore Sami Martin leading the way with 12 and senior Brittany Elkins with 11.

Rashelle Carr led the team in rebounds with eight while scoring five points in the game for USAO.

The rebound battle was won by the Lady Lions, who snatched 46 compared to USAO’s 29. SAGU had 16 offensive rebounds compared to USAO’s nine.

USAO continues the conference road trip as they face a third new conference foe in a row in Texas Wesleyan on Monday evening. Tip off will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Drovers will then return home to take on conference-rival Wayland Baptist at 1 p.m. Jan. 18 against Wayland Baptist. It will be Teacher Appreciation Day and all teachers and educators will enjoy free admission to the game.
