Leaves are beginning to change into vibrant colors. The birds have started south. Fall is in the air. It’s time again for Drover Basketball.

Drover basketball is tipped off every year with Drover Madness, a pep-rally for all Drover fans, giving the community an opportunity to welcome the new men’s and women’s teams to the court and get geared up for the upcoming season.

Madness begins at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 inside the USAO Fieldhouse. Jake’s Rib, Shirt-N-Stuff and the USAO Student Association will sponsor the event this year.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” Men’s Head Coach Brisco McPherson said. “It will be a good opportunity to meet the teams.”

The coaches anticipate between 200 and 300 people to attend the annual event. Guests will be greeted with food catered from Jake’s Rib, free T-shirts, an inter-squad scrimmage and games for audience members.

Men’s Assistant Coach Vinson Metcalf said they will have a scooter contest and a free throw shooting contest for attendees to play, giving the fans a chance to participate in the event and in Drover basketball.

“I think it is a wonderful preview of the teams, and an exciting time for fans of basketball and of USAO to have a great time together celebrating the kick-off of the season,” Women’s Head Coach Laci Tompkins said.

Madness will come just a few days before the men begin the season at home against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Nov. 9. The Lady Drovers will play their first home game Nov. 24 against the University of Central Oklahoma.
