CHICKASHA – Against stiff competition, the Drover women raced in the UCO Land Run on Saturday morning to open the first season back for women’s cross country at USAO.
Nearly 70 participants raced in the five-kilometer race.
Leading the Drovers was Brittni Kent with a time of 21:22.47. Kent, a junior from Sapulpa, rushed back after the meet to play in the Drover women’s soccer game, also Saturday morning.
Seniors Beatriz Rey and Tabby Bailey and freshman Deborah Park each came in within 20 seconds of one another. Rey posted a time of 22:09.32, Bailey at 22:19.32 and Park just seconds later at 22:23.12.
USAO’s two other competitors — freshman Brittany DeWitt and junior Katie Jones — ran it in 26:21.71 and 26:56.55 respectively.
“Today gave me better insight into what kind of competition we will face this season and also what my runners need to work on now,” Head Coach Leandra Johnson said.
As a team, the Drovers came in seventh in with 163 total points.
The Drovers next meet is at Oklahoma City University on Sept. 22.
