CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s women’s soccer team will start the season receiving votes nationally, according to the NAIA Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday.

The Drover women, who were picked second in the Sooner Athletic Conference, is the only conference school to be considered receiving votes. Powerhouse Oklahoma City is the only SAC school on the list, sitting at No. 8.

While the USAO squad is small, USAO head coach Jimmy Hampton is confident they will continue to develop and become a competitive team.

“Our women are progressing nicely,” he said. “They just need to stay healthy and keep growing.”

The Drovers return six starters from last season and have several newcomers that should prove to help elevate the team, Hampton said. Additionally, the team is on the young side having graduated six since last season.

Fans will get an opportunity to see the Drover women in action at home at 2 p.m. Friday when the Drovers take on Oklahoma Wesleyan, who is also receiving votes, in an exhibition match.

The Drovers officially kick off the season against Houston-Victoria at Our Lady of the Lake on Aug. 30. They play OLLU before returning to Chickasha for their home opener against University of Texas – Brownsville at 1 p.m. Sept. 5.
