CHICKASHA– With the Drover women’s soccer team going into Tuesday afternoon’s game riding a two-game winning streak, the USAO defense came up big to make it three in a row.
The Drovers (5-9, 4-4) grab their season-high third win in a row in a 3-0 victory against Southwestern Assemblies of God in the Sooner Athletic Conference matchup in Waxahachie, Texas.
The shot count was heavily in the Drovers favor as the offense took 14 shots compared to SAGU’s four. With the win, the Drovers also picked up their third straight shut out on the 2013 season.
USAO’s game winner came from sophomore defender Ryah Vyse, who gathered the corner kick from freshman Rhiannon Brewster and sailed the goal in from seven yards out in left corner of the goal.
The goal was Vyse’s second of the year and first game-winner of her Drover soccer career.
The scoring didn’t stop there for the Drovers as they would net two more goals in the second half to put the game in their hands.
Linda Addo, senior from Ghana, scored her 10th goal of the 2013 season off an assist from junior Jade Ovendale, who was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Along with her assist the Drovers got another goal from Ovendale, who continues her season with a shot that was too hot for the goalkeeper to handle.
The goal Ovendale scored came from 12 yards out and bounced right off the goalkeeper’s hands into right side of the goal.
The Drovers will have a tough Senior Day battle with No. 19 Oklahoma City coming into town to face off on Friday in Chickasha. The game will be live streamed and live stats on USAO's athletic site.
