SHAWNEE – Coming into the conference opener, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers knew they were going to face tough competition and fell to exactly that on Friday night in Shawnee.

Oklahoma Baptist was the first test of the 2013 conference season for the Drover women and the Lady Bison took advantage to squeak by with a 3-2 victory.

The Drovers (1-6, 0-1) and Lady Bison were back and forth for the whole game even though OBU had a 22-8 shot advantage on the game.

The Bison struck first in the beginning half off a well placed goal by Kelsey Whalen off an assist from Macey Coppenbarger in the 17th minute.

Two minutes later, the Drovers scored the equalizer with Linda Addo, who knocked on in off a kick around 15 yards out.  For the next 20 minutes of first half, the defense took over for both teams.

Out of the gates in the second half, the Drovers took the lead off Fran Monfron’s first goal of the season. The assist came from Vanessa Yates, who kicked a well place pass to Monfron, who was right at the goal to kick it in.

The Drovers held their own for another 20 minutes before giving up the tying goal and go ahead goal both scored by Lauren Lartigue.

With the loss, the Drovers will look to get their first win of SAC competition in a Tuesday game against Wayland Baptist at Drover Pitch.

USAO will be live streaming the game against Wayland Baptist on the USAO athletic site.
