CHICKASHA – Opening conference play on Thursday afternoon, the Drover women went on to shut out Saint Gregory’s with a 4-0 win at home.
The Drovers dominated the game offensively, outshooting the Cavaliers 27-5 for the game. Sixteen of USAO’s shots were on goal.
The Drovers got lucky early on as SGU committed an own goal to give the Drovers a 1-0 lead. But it wasn't long before sophomore Linda Addo knocked in another USAO goal, off a double assist by Megan Wilkerson and Taylor Fain.
The Drovers added one more not long after: a goal by senior Calli Cooper, off an assist by Vanessa Yates. The Drovers went into halftime leading 3-0.
Senior Erin Coggan grabbed USAO’s fourth and final goal at the 75-minute mark. Her goal was unassisted.
Goals by both teams were taken back due to offsides calls.
Brooke Worcester, a freshman goalkeeper, earned her third shutout and fifth win of the season in the game, even though she recorded no goals as the Drover defense kept the Cavs from making any shots on goal.
After a rough start, the Drovers have won their last five games to earn the record of 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Drovers will take on Friends University at 4 p.m. Friday at Drover Pitch before continuing conference action at home against Rogers State at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
