Andrea Brock

Chickasha is a wonderful community to be a part of. I loved every minute of my time in college at USAO and always look forward to going back for a visit.

Andrea Brock came all the way from Texas to attend USAO and spent four years building her leadership skills, and growing as a teacher and individual. She says being in the President’s Leadership Council helped her succeed throughout her ever-evolving career.

“USAO provided me such a rich education,” said Andrea. “I learned how to make math come alive for students through hands on learning, children’s literature and research based strategies. And, as a PLC recipient, my self-confidence grew as I challenged myself in different leadership roles. Plus, I cherish all the friendships I made while at USAO.”

After USAO, Andrea went on to receiver a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in Mathematics Education at the University of Texas at Arlington. She not only is a mathematics coordinator on the academic resource team for Moore Public Schools, she also just recently started her own business, “Math Brocks.”

“My liberal arts education provided the opportunity to enhance my public speaking skills and to help me make interdisciplinary connections for my students,” said Andrea. “I also grew as a writer while taking Creative Writing. All of these have helped me in my career.”

Andrea has accomplished quite a lot since graduating 10 years ago. In 2012, she was named Moore Public School’s Teacher of the Year as well as the

Mathematics Association of America Oklahoma Middle School Teacher of the year. Just last year in 2013, she was a finalist for Oklahoma’s Teacher of the Year. In addition, she received USAO’s Young Alumni Award. She says she owes a lot of her success to USAO and values the experience she received while at USAO.

“I chose USAO because I didn't want to be a number,” she said. “I wanted my professors to know my name, and I also loved the community feel. USAO provides a wonderful education and the campus life is a blast. Plus, the Teacher Education Program will prepare you for the classroom.”

Through studying about other religions while at USAO, she says that she was able to understand her own beliefs better. “My faith in the Lord grew stronger as a result.”

“I also learned how to budget my money. And, on a funny side note, I learned that Liberty Drug makes the BEST chocolate malts!”
