Drover Alum Since Day One: Karly Eden

For Karly Eden, the essence of her experience at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma lies in the lasting connections formed with professors and the emphasis on critical thinking—a combination that she credits for her success in graduate school and beyond. 

Eden earned her Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a minor in history and liberal arts in 2018. Navigating life post-graduation, she pursued her passions by delving into graduate school. She overcame challenges amid the pandemic and received her Master of Arts in sociology from Kansas State University in 2020. 

Reflecting on the unique challenges the pandemic placed on her journey to further her education, she said, “Trying to complete my 130-page master’s thesis that relied on in-person interviews during a global pandemic will always be an experience that I’ll never understand how I got through.” 

Despite the challenge, Karly was grateful to be prepared, adding, “I think the small class sizes at USAO prepared me really well for graduate school. I had a lot of classes that were seminar-style where we were encouraged to read outside of class then come to class with discussion questions and ideas which is exactly what graduate school was like.”  

Currently serving as an insights manager at Service Management Group, Eden transforms customer experience survey data into actionable insights. Her role involves crafting consultative presentations using tools like PowerPoint and Excel, showcasing her proficiency in both analytical and communication skills. 

Offering advice to those on the brink of graduation, Eden encourages students not to fear exploring multiple paths and career choices.  

"Focus on getting your foot in the door somewhere and gaining experience. Don't be afraid to try new career paths or industries, even if they aren't exactly what you studied in school," she advises.
