USAO Athletic Department announces summer camp lineup

Among the many events scheduled on the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma’s campus this summer are the various athletic youth camps. The Drover Athletic Department has four sports featured in this year’s schedule: men’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and volleyball.
“Collaborating with our community is a big part of our Drover mission,” said Mike Ross, athletic director. “The community is a huge part of the success of our athletic department so we love when we can bring more people together and share our talents. This year, there’s a variety of summer camps for different sports and age groups, we hope everyone can find something that fits their needs.”
Men’s basketball head coach Chris Francis brings back two youth camps this summer. The Skills Camp will offer skills-specific instruction from college coaches and players to identify areas of growth. Beginner to advanced skills will be taught along with daily competitions. Francis also offers his general Day Camp that focuses on skills, defense and decision-making through drills ranging from beginner to advanced. Participants will also engage in daily challenges and scrimmages for camp awards and will receive a camp T-shirt with registration.
Robert Blakley kicks-off his career as a Drover with two volleyball summer camps in the Fieldhouse. Junior high volleyball players will be hosted for the first camp, while the second camp is designed for high school players. The camps will focus on form and gameplay decision-making while offering prospect opportunities for interested players.
The acclaimed USAO soccer program also brings back their popular summer camps. These camps focus on enhancing fundamental skills with feedback from experienced college players and USAO soccer coaching staff. The themed sessions will prepare campers for the evening games where they will put their progress to the test. Registration will also cover lodging, meals, camp T-shirt and a souvenir camp ball.
Legendary softball head coach Jadyn Wallis will host her annual softball camp at Bill Smith Ballpark, the location of this year’s NAIA World Series Opening Round tournament. The camp will focus on drills to enhance hitting, pitching, catching, and infield and outfield fundamentals with individualized critiques for each camper. The camp will conclude with the program’s famous water slide.
